Wauwatosa ‘Community Conversation’ April 1 Focuses on Employment for the Disabled

WAUWATOSA – Members of the business community will meet with educators and parents to discuss the benefits of employing the disabled.

The “Community Conversation” will be held at Wauwatosa City Hall, 7725 W. North Ave., from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1. The event is co-sponsored by Wauwatosa’s Committee for Citizens with Disabilities and Wauwatosa School District.

“The purpose of this event is to give employers the opportunity to learn firsthand about the successes of businesses who’ve hired disabled persons and the persons they’ve hired,” said Mary Walz-Chojnacki, one of the event organizers.

The discussion will be facilitated by Laura Owens, UWM Professor of Exceptional Education and director of Creative Employment Opportunities, a job placement agency.

Also participating will be Chris Jackson, who works in the Wauwatosa School District’s school-to-work program, as well as Wauwatosa Mayor Jill Didier.

Many members of the business community plan to attend.

“We’re going to focus on the abilities people can bring to their jobs, rather than their limitations,” Walz-Chojnacki said.
